Alex was born in Glasgow and qualified in 1979 at Glasgow University. Five years with the Royal Air Force took him to South Wales, the Home Counties and the Shetland Islands, where isolation from specialist services meant finding a solution for every case himself. He then emigrated to Germany — first Offenbach, later Bavaria, where he set up his own practice — and spent time working in Covent Garden in London before moving to Marbella and finally settling in Fuengirola. A keen golfer, Alex also enjoys cooking adventurous dishes for family and friends.
